Sure, Apple ought to supply one with each MacBook Air, but it doesn't. This device weighs a few ounces, so stick in in your briefcase. It works. There will be times when you need the Internet, and can't get it wirelessly. Don't leave home without it. What else do you need to know. just read the specs to be sure it works with OS-X also. If you ever need to run your MacBook Air with Windows and need a wired ethernet connection, this one won't do the job.There is no Windows driver for this adapter, so if Windows is a necessity, go for another brand designed for Windows.
Given the price of the computer spending the extra 30 bucks is a no-brainer. It works fine and I've noticed no difference in download speed compared to other computers with built-in Ethernet. Four stars instead of five because this computer really should have had Ethernet built in. Even though the Macbook Air is primarily designed as a wireless computer there are times when an Ethernet connection comes in handy. I've used this adapter for long downloads, video downloads and software updates, times when Wifi is unpleasantly slow.
